Thank you to all of you readers who check back to stay updated with my music and my journey, means so much to me! Apologies for the very slow update!! Honestly not much to update, as I am only being productive at the studio working on music and myself and spiritual being. Once the release dates, and show dates kick in you’ll be seeing more posts!

As for now, as you all know, August is one of the busiest months for the JA community due to Nisei Week events. I will be prancing around in the parade as always at the end, the grand finale with the Nebuta Float on August 14, Sunday evening from 5:30pm. Our float leaves the lot after sunset because we are a lighted up float. The parade starts off with different people who “own” the event/community as well as boy scouts, and other amazing dancers and musicians rockin the streets of Los Angeles. Little Tokyo is the place to be on August 14, as well as August 21, which is the closing ceremony of the Nisei Week Festivities! All are welcome to jump in the Obon Odori dance circle with us. Slip on your yukata and get ready to stop the ground in your getas! The Closing dance starts around 4pm! Come early to grab some seats if you’re just watching, and wait for the Taiko players to start pounding!

I also am trying hard to keep my mouth shut but possibly some shows out of town coming up…

On the train and back…

I jumped on the Amtrak train on May 25 and headed East. On the way, I enjoyed the scenery of the desert slowly turning greener. At night, I shut out all the lights and saw the sky take over. It was raining stars!

Anxious to see everyone…

I arrived in Dallas, Texas on May 27, Friday and was picked up by family. We headed to the studio where I saw my baby brother, Yung 1 (Young Dan), who was making music, and ready to graduate! We were pretty much up at that studio or another for most of my stay there.

Yung 1 graduates on May 29. We are so proud of him! Right after eating at Urban Taco (amazing food!), we head out to the studio to watch Yung 1 and his group “The Placemints,” work a photo shoot. After all is done, little brother is back in the lab, writing and recording. He is def something to brag about!

Women Bosses

I am a part of a collective of some strong, creative and independent women who refuse to sit in the shadows of men. Women entrepreneurs who meet monthly to support each others businesses. This Saturday afternoon, we had a table reserved for 7 of us to get in discussions about time management and other issues that we come across during our construction of our kingdom, or shall I say, queendom. I love how there is a red dotted line under the word I just created, “queendom.” We are and have always had that dotted red line under us, and our movement represents everything that never was to something you always wanted and needed. While men had roads paved before them, women dug them up as she moved forward, no wonder we are so powerful! Make way for women bosses, a smart man knows to do so. Ha!

I always enjoy spending my hours at a high school with some amazing students eager to get out and express themselves. Once again I was honored to stand in front of many creative minds and share my dreams and goals. Thanks to Mr. Jung, my afternoon was spent at an auditorium in Santa Monica Catholic High School, and the next thing I knew, I was spitting a verse on the microphone demanded by my audience, after trying to stand and look like a professional business woman with something stuck up my ass (I tried!). The kids were not having me just “talk about” what I do, they wanted proof, to be about it. I loved every moment. Thanks for having me there and for all the questions that picked my brain. That’s what my music stands for, the future!

Tina Tajima spoke about all her efforts toward helping the victims in Japan, in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. We dropped off a $1500 check to her from the fundraiser (April 4, thanks to all) and she will get it to the victims as soon as she is back in Japan.

After meeting Tina, we ran over to 2nd St Jazz, and performed a set early on in the show basically to run in, and on to the stage, set up in a hurry, barely a soundcheck and perform, and break down the drums, get off stage and out the door. It almost feels like it didn’t even happen! Overall we had a fun show, and thanks to those who came and stopped by!

Us females are working the Maravilla Handball Courts in East LA with thanks to sister Fe, for organizing with the powerful women of Mujeres de Maiz, in June to celebrate Peace & Dignity. It is a fundraiser for the Peace & Dignity Journey 2012 (spiritual run that transverses North & South America) as well as for the Indigenous Summer Ceremonies. Come celebrate women musicians and artists who stand for causes!
